Kata Beach North Reef (often called Kata House Reef) makes a surprisingly nice dive thanks to its accessibility, abundant marine life, and shallow depths. The perfect option if you only have half a day available, a fantastic choice for beginners, and remarkably popular with experienced divers, it never fails to deliver.
A short swim from shore, diverse hard corals form a compact reef bursting with vibrant marine life and surrounded by pure white sand. This concentrates marine life into one spot, meaning you're swimming through dense schools of fish as soon as you drop beneath the surface. If you're a macro lover, you'll be delighted by the nudibranchs, shrimp, and pipefish we find.
The sandy areas provide ample space for skills training, especially buoyancy, without risking harm to the corals. Additionally, these areas are home to some very special residents like mimic octopus, snake eels, and Indian Ocean Walkmen.
As a result, experienced divers love spending time travelling slowly over the sand, searching for special creatures. Head out for a few minutes, and you'll find artificial reef blocks at around 12m where we often see batfish, rainbow runners, yellowtail scads, and juvenile blue trevally hunting glassfish and snapper.
