Begin your dive qualifications in earnest with our SSI Open Water Diver Course
This is the most popular entry-level certification for scuba diving in the world. The SSI Open Water Diver gives you a certification, recognised worldwide, as an autonomous scuba diver.
And, of course, it's your first step in a lifetime of adventure and discovery of the fascinating world under the waves!
You don't need any diving experience to take the SSI Open Water diver course: we will teach you everything you need to know. The only prerequisites are that you must be at least 10 years old, and you must be able to swim. We're not looking for Olympic athletes here! We just need to know that you are safe in the water and could take care of yourself in the event of equipment failure.
Many novice divers may have already taken a Try Scuba experience, and in certain circumstances that can count towards your Open Water certification. For example, if you're not sure you want to take the full SSI Open Water course, we can start off with a half-day Try Scuba program. If you should decide that you don't want to carry on with the full course, for any reason, then you only pay for your Try Scuba session. So what have you got to lose?
If you don't have time, or don't feel ready for the full course, you can take the intermediate level course, SSI Scuba Diver and get a certification for supervised scuba diving in just two days.

What's Involved in the SSI Open Water Diver Course?
There are three main areas of expertise that we're going to cover:
- Theory of diving: there are some basic principles that you need to understand before you can be considered a certified Open Water Diver. You can choose to do the theory online if you like. That way you can work at your own pace, at home, before you arrive in Phuket. That will save around half a day of the course, so it means more time in the water!
You can create a profile now if you like, and have a look at the online materials for Scuba Diver. That is the first three sections of the Open Water course and it's available to everybody, completely Free of Charge! Click the button below to get started.
- Skills sessions in the pool: you will learn the basic skills involved in scuba diving. The first time we introduce the skills, you will learn them in the safe, confined environment of the swimming pool.
- Open Water Dives: once you're familiar with the basic skills, we will introduce you to the Open Water environment, where you will practice the skills, during your Open Water dives, until you're completely comfortable with them. This is the SSI system of Comfort Through Repetition, giving you the time you need to practice each skill until it is second nature to you. The required minimum is four dives, and we offer an additional fun dive for free, giving you five dives in total.
