Snorkels are an important piece of equipment for divers as well as for snorkelers. Many divers choose to leave their snorkels at home, but they’re a useful addition to any diver’s kit bag: you never know when the boat might meet whale sharks, mantas or dolphins during the surface interval, and you’ll get far more enjoyment out of your encounter if you have your snorkel with you.
It’s important to get the right snorkel. Buy the best quality that you can afford and pay attention to the size of the mouthpiece, the softness of the silicone and the purge valve.
It’s pretty obvious that children’s snorkels should have a small mouthpiece. But many parents are unaware that you should also choose a narrower and shorter snorkel for young children. This will reduce the amount of “dead air” that they’re breathing into their small lungs from the residue of their last breath out, which is sitting in the snorkel bore.
We have a selection of rental snorkels so that you can try it out on a day trip for diving or snorkeling before you buy.
