PADI Instructor Examination (IE) Phuket

IE - the Instructor Examination takes place after the IDC during two days. It consists of the following, all of which was taught during the IDC.

Theory Test. The topics with 12 questions in each field are Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Skills and Environment and RDP. This must be completed in one and a half hours, with a 75% pass rate in each test. If you get 75% in only 4 tests you can redo the one that you missed once only.

General Standards and Procedures. 50 questions to be completed in one and a half hours, and this is an open book test where you can use your Instructor Manual and your IDC Candidate Workbook. Again you must obtain 75% to pass and there is no chance to get a retest if you fail.

Rescue assessment. This is scenario number seven from the Rescue Diver Course (unconscious diver at the surface) and it shows the examiner that you have the necessary skills to solve a hazardous and stressful situation.

Confined Water Skills. You will be given 5 skills that you must demonstrate to the examiner and you must score at least three points out of five points on each skill to pass. The total score has to be at least 17 points.

Knowledge Development presentation. You must score at least 3.5 to pass. One remake allowed.

Confined Water presentation. You must score at least 3.4 to pass. One remake allowed.

Open Water presentation. Two skills with an average score of 3.5 to pass. No remake allowed.
